What do you plan to do to celebrate your next "landmark" birthday? Donna McKellar Easter's ideal vision for her 70th birthday was to swim across the lake at camp on that day, and she did it!
Donna's granddaughter, Frannie, was a camper at 2-week camp in 2009. Frannie wrote to Donna while at camp and one of her letters said...
We watched a Nakanawa video from 1920 to 2009. I swear I saw you, Donna, in it. You had pigtail braids with blue ribbons. When I jump into the lake I think, "Donna probably swam right here."
Donna's friend, Mimi Nischan Heldman joined Donna for the swim. Donna writes...
Mimi is an artist, I'm an art historian - we put on art exhibitsfor our Nashville church, St. Bartholomew's Episcopal. Althought 20 years apart, we both went to Nakanawa as Valkyries, went to girls' schools in Virginia, and are good friends. She asked me what I wanted to do most for my 70th birthday. Voila!
At a volleyball game last week, Frannie's good friend, Mary Grace Kelley, said, "I watched you swim!!" So perhaps they will still remember some day and want to do something at or for Nakanawa at 70---, 80---, or 90?
