Nakanawa TIES
MOTHER* DAUGHTER WEEKEND
SEPTEMBER 17 - 19, 2010

When:
Friday, September 17 - Sunday, September 19, 2010
Arrival - between 3-5:00 Friday
Departure - At about 10:30, after church on Sunday

Where:
Senior Camp (with a "Free Day Trip” to visit Junior Camp)
Who:
Nakanawa campers, counselors, or parents (past or present) along with any female friends you want to invite, of any age. The focus will be on prospective campers between the ages of 4 and 11, but older campers and adults are welcomed.

Purposes:
  • To introduce your daughter, granddaughter or other favorite little girl to Nakanawa so that when she is of camp age, she will be eager to sign up.
  • MDW is also a wonderful way to introduce any female friend or relative (and their daughters) to camp.  It will give your friends a behind-the-scenes look at camp.
  • We have also had many inquiries from former campers who want to come just to spend a relaxing weekend at camp, get out on the lake, and sleep in a cabin again.  We would love to have any alumna who wants to join us, with or without little girls in tow.  We may call on you to help (lead songs, set a table, etc.) but will also expect you to have lots of free time to enjoy being back at camp.

Activities: The girls will get to sample a number of camp classes, and meet Directors Ann and Pepe Perron as well as current campers and counselors. Highlights include sleeping in a cabin, learning "Happy Am I,” riding a horse, canoeing on the lake, swimming (if it is warm enough), Evening Entertainment, scaling the climbing wall and riding the zip line from the tower to Valkyrie Point (for those brave enough), meeting animals from the Nature Hut, a hayride, singing on the Crow’s Nest, Council Ring, s’mores, and much MORE! To see a tentative sample schedule, click here.

Your Responsibility: Though we will have Nakanawa staff present, the adults who bring little girls are expected to be with them at all times, supervising and giving permission for various activities, helping them shower in Egypt, putting them to bed, etc. Because of camp's liability, you assume complete responsibility for any children you bring. If you plan to bring more than two pre-camper children, we will try to line up an older camper to act as a big sister for you. Camp is smoke-free, and this will be an alcohol-free weekend.

Registration: We are accepting reservations through August 20.  Click here to register on-line and pay via credit card to hold your space.

Cost: Adults $150, Pre/Campers (ages 4-17) $100 (This includes five meals and lodging in your choice of a Senior Camp Cabin as well as a full weekend of supervised activities with an experienced Nakanawa staff.)

Transportation: If you live too far to come by car, we suggest you fly in to Nashville, where you can rent a car or take a limo service to Cookeville where we can pick you up. You may be able to pair up with others arriving at the airport at about the same time and drive to camp together.   Click here to learn more about transportation to/from camp.

Staff: A small group of former counselors will oversee the various activities, and this staff is nearly finalized.  If you are interested in volunteering in your area of expertise (waterfront, horseback riding, canoeing, climbing wall, etc.), please email Margaret Matens at margaretmatens@yahoo.com.
